![]() | Dumont stakes large land position targeting metal and uranium enriched black shales, Alberta and Saskatchewan, Canada (DNI : TSX-Ven, DG7 : Frankfurt) TORONTO, April 16 /CNW/ - Dumont Nickel Inc. (DNI:TSX-Ven, DG7:FSE) is pleased to announce that it has recently acquired a series of mineral properties in Alberta and Saskatchewan to pursue exploration and development of metal enriched black shales over a significant land position. ALBERTA DUMONT has acquired a 1,522 square kilometer (152,248 hectares) land position in northeast Alberta, overlying near-surface black shales which are locally enriched in Uranium, Molybdenum, Nickel, Vanadium, Zinc, Cadmium, Cobalt, Silver and Gold. The land position is held under eighteen Metallic and Industrial Mineral Permits, located approximately 120 kilometers north of Fort McMurray, Alberta. The Permits grant DUMONT the exclusive right to explore for metallic and industrial minerals for a fourteen year term subject to traditional assessment work performance biannually. The foregoing Permits are held 100% by DUMONT, and contain the historic Eaglenest Property which was under active exploration in the 1990's. Dumont very recently made application to the Alberta Department of Energy for an additional ten Metallic and Industrial Mineral Permits (921 square kilometers, 92,160 hectares) adjacent to the above eighteen Permits. The foregoing ten Permits will be held 100% by DUMONT, and contain the historic Buckton and Asphalt Properties which were under active exploration in the 1990's. Once all Permits have been granted, DUMONT's aggregate land position will be approximately 2,444 square kilometers (244,408 hectares), all of which are underlain by the targeted black shales. Based on extensive regional oil/gas drilling public databases, the region surrounding DUMONT's Permits is underlain by a layer-cake arrangement of sub-horizontal sedimentary formations of the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. These databases, augmented by a more detailed public stratigraphic model for the immediate area under DUMONT's Permits, indicate that the targeted black shales extend under all of DUMONT's Permits. Historic records from the area indicate that three large metal enrichment targets had previously been identified, two of which were confirmed by drilling in the late 1990's. Many additional metal enrichment targets are also documented in historic records although none was followed-up in any detail due to poor metal markets at the time. Metal enrichment zones confirmed at the Buckton and Asphalt Properties by drilling were also similarly not followed-up, despite considerable metallurgical testwork indicating viability of metal extraction from the shales by conventional solvents and techniques. The sustained current strength in metal markets compel a re-evaluation of the merits of the Alberta black shales as a potential source for immense tonnages of base and precious metals in addition to Uranium. DUMONT's near term objectives are to consolidate historic work into a NI-43-101 compliant report, and to advance findings of historic work through additional follow-up and testwork. For simplicity of reference to the extensive public databases available from the area, historic property names will be retained by DUMONT in its future work. Additional information will be announced shortly from these Properties. SASKATCHEWAN A similar geologic setting has been identified by DUMONT in neighbouring Saskatchewan. This area overlies a large regional radiometric anomaly known to be due to Uranium and Thorium enrichment in basement rocks. A 921 square kilometer (92,128 hectares) land position has been acquired by Dumont over most of this area to pursue exploration for metal enrichment in black shales overlying basement, with specific focus on Uranium. The Saskatchewan land position is held under two Saskatchewan Exploration Permits which confer to DUMONT, for a two year term and subject to traditional annual assessment work performance, the exclusive right to carry out mineral exploration and to convert any portion of the Permits to traditional mineral claims. The Saskatchewan Permits are held 100% by DUMONT. The above new acquisitions augment DUMONT's other active projects in Ontario, Utah, Nevada and Arizona, all of which continue as planned. An update from these projects will be announced at a later date. The Qualified Person in connection with the Alberta and Saskatchewan Properties and this press release is Shahe F. Sabag, President of Dumont.
