    Default MSBT: Is there a future for Medasorb?

    What is up with MSBT?

    I have been following this company for some time and I have more questions than answers. It looks great on the outside but has anyone actually looked at the details of the clinical trial the company is conducting in Germany? The exclusion criteria for the study is too broad--it excludes all patients who have congestive heart failure, advanced liver disease, or chronic kidney disease. It essentially rules out a good 70% of ICU patients. In addition, the study is limited to patients who have ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) or ALI (acute lung injury) in the setting of sepsis which means even smaller patient population.

    Dr. Philip Chan gave an update on the pilot study the other week. OK, they are still recruiting patients but it is clear from his statement that so far the primary endpoint (IL-6 levels) has not been achieved in the treatment group.

    Many of the scientists involved in the study are doctors who are on the verge of retirement who want to make few bucks before they retire...
