Advanced Cell Technology Announces Cost Reduction Program
Tuesday September 9, 9:38 am ET
Company To Reduce Annual Operating Expenses By $5-6 Million Through Closing of Two Research & Development Facilities; Company Continues to License Non-core Intellectual Property

WORCESTER, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Advanced Cell Technology, Inc. (OTC: ACTC - News) announced today plans to streamline and focus on its most advanced clinical programs as part of a cost reduction program designed to reduce annual operating expenses by $5-6 million. In conjunction with the cost reduction activities, the Company has not renewed its Alameda, California sublease and has vacated its Charlestown, Massachusetts facility.

The Company is focused on partnering its proprietary patent protected preclinical programs in retinal disease and the manufacturing of red blood cells (see paper published in Regenerative Medicine the current issue). Its Retinal Pigmented Epithelial (or RPE) cell Program, an embryonic stem cell (hESC) therapy for the treatment of degenerative retinal disorders and its recently announced Hemangioblast (or HG) cell Program, an embryonic stem cell therapy for the treatment of blood and cardiovascular indications as described in the September issue of Discover Magazine, are programs that are among the most advanced translational developmental programs in this newly emerging industry sector. The Company is also concentrating on securing funding for a Phase II Trial for its Myoblast program, an autogolous adult stem cell therapy for the treatment of heart disease, which has successfully completed four Phase I clinical trials and has clearance from the FDA to begin Phase II trials.

The Company recently licensed to a subsidiary of BioTime Inc some of its non core patent technology covering techniques in developing stem cell lines as well as animal technology which can be used for research purposes. The company retains its proprietary technology in the area of Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells (iPS) and other alternative technologies which it believes covers much of the reprogramming technology recently announced by Japanese and U.S. scientist. The company is seeking funding and partners to complete its ground breaking research in this promising science while still utilizing its proprietary “single cell blastomere technology” which does not destroy the embryo when developing cell lines used for its current development programs.

“We believe in this challenging capital market environment that it is prudent to focus on our most advanced clinical programs,” stated William M. Caldwell IV, Chairman and CEO of Advanced Cell Technology, Inc. “These cost reduction activities and successfully implementing our partnering/licensing strategy should afford the Company the ability to allocate funding to further develop its later-stage clinical programs while significantly reducing its cash utilization for developmental activities. Near term funding continues to be our major challenge.”

When there is a constant volume of 6-10 million over a week, and about 10 million a day over the last 2 months then it suddenly halts to an average of 2.5 million in a 2 day span, there is no reason not to believe that this is because dilution has stopped altogether, or is in a holding pattern. By my count the 3 million in debentures private institutions bought in March have already been sold. The Irish investors that bought debentures in October have been selling them for the last 9 or so weeks, and that can be seen in the volume charts.

The last 2 day lull of this kind was October 2nd-3rd. There were only 2 days since where the volume levels were anywhere near the levels of yesterday and today, and one of those was the day after Thanksgiving where hardly anyone trades.

Do you want written proof from Transition Holdings that I know this or something? I can't offer that kind of evidence, but I am certainly not just pulling this stuff out of my rear end. I am not a pumper or a basher. I currently don't own any shares of this stock, but have been day trading it, and have learned an awful lot about ACTC in the meanwhile. I believe this could very well be the time to buy into this company before it starts a hefty climb. I plan to do so in the coming days, after a little more confirmation.

In my well educated and researched OPINION, either the diluted selling has stopped altogether and the pps will start to climb as a result of everyone HOLDING the stock in mass, or this is just a lull created by Transition Holdings Inc to temporarily rise the pps as to get the most out of their investment.

Since ACTC doesn't have to declare any information about their company whatsoever, there is no way to know at what price TH Inc. bought the debentures. I believe the price to be somewhere between .015 and .020. At these levels, it's safe to say they've either already exercised all of their shares, or are very close to doing so. Simple math will tell you that, according to specific volume over the past 9 weeks. TH Inc. were given 7 months to convert these shares, but I don't see how they could have much more to convert unless ACTC sold them at ridiculous prices. I'm talking sub-penny here, and if they did that they are flat out crooks. That is highly unlikely however, and the time to start seriously looking at acquiring shares of this stock is finally here.

ACTC is still trading on very strong volume of over 18 million today and has shown somewhat more stability than other pennies on here. Don't you think if you held this it should get close to or break .045 since it's on the low end of the day's range and the VERY low range of its 52 week high?

Due to the market selloff it has lost almost 90% perent of its value the past year (.32 high) so it has nowhere to go but UP, you know? The question is how long to wait. It shouldn't be too long to get a small bump to about .045.

NewsvineAdvanced Cell Technology, Inc. (“ACT”) (OTC: ACTC.PK) reported that it is feasible to differentiate human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) into functional human vasculature. The research, which appears in the January issue of the journal Regenerative Medicine, shows for the first time that human progenitor cells –known as hemangioblasts– have the potential for both endothelial cell (EC) and vascular smooth muscle cell (SMC) lineage differentiation. This dual potentiality is critical for the effective treatment of human vascular disease, especially the repair and formation of mature and larger-size (non-capillary) vessels.

“The cells participated in the formation of new blood vessels –both capillaries and larger vessels—and were capable of repairing damaged vessels in multiple vasculatures,” said Robert Lanza, M.D., Chief Scientific Officer at ACT, and senior author of the study. “The cells restored blood flow in ischemic limbs to near normal levels. They also showed a similar regenerative capacity after myocardial infarction and participated in the repair of vascular injury in diabetic animals. The formation of mature and functional vasculature, except for capillary vessels, requires the interaction of endothelial and smooth muscle cells, the later playing a critical role in the structural and functional support of the vascular network. Thus, the ability to generate large numbers of these progenitor cells makes them an ideal source of cells for the treatment of human diseases caused by deficient vessel growth.”

Although endothelial cells play an essential role in vasculogenesis and angiogenesis and form capillary vasculatures, they alone cannot complete the process of vessel growth and development. Vascular smooth muscle cells play a critical role in the support of the vascular network by stabilizing nascent endothelial vessels during vascular development and blood vessel growth. This outer layer of cells also protects the fragile channels from rupture and helps control blood flow.

Until now there was no evidence that blast cells (hemangioblasts) or their equivalents generated from hESCs possessed the ability to differentiate into smooth muscle cells. ”The hESC-derived smooth muscle expressed SMC-specific markers (α-SM actin and calponin) and contracted upon stimulation with carbachol,” stated Shi-Jiang Lu, first author of the paper. “When implanted in nude mice, the cells formed microvasculature with endothelial cells in Matrigel. The cells differentiated into both ECs and SMCs, and incorporated into blood vessels after injection into ischemic tissues, indicating that these cells are functional both in vitro and in vivo.”

“We believe these cells could play an important future therapeutic role for patients with vascular disease,” stated William M. Caldwell, CEO and Chairman of ACTC. “We are pleased to continue this work through our new joint venture with CHA Biotech Co, Ltd. (CHA). ACT scientists will work with the new company “Stem Cell & Regenerative Medicine International” to help translate this research into clinical therapies.”

The paper’s other researchers are Yordanka Ivanova, Qiang Feng, and Chenmei Luo.
